The UTRGV Online Training and Research in Counseling program (OTRC) offers free counseling––standard individual, couples and family counseling, various groups for adults and children, as well as online dream sharing groups and dreamwork-assisted individual counseling. If you are interested in receiving services from OTRC, please fill out our Client Application Form.

History: OTRC was orginally launched as an external program––known as DreamStar Free Online Counseling (DFOC)––in response to the need for counseling and community support during the coronavirus pandemic. Recently, the UTRGV Provost approved DFOC's onboarding/conversion to OTRC.

Since DFOC/OTRC’s launch, student counselors have served over 1000 individuals and provided over 6000 hours of free counseling. All counselors working through this site are current students in the UTRGV masters degree counseling program. As unlicensed counselors in training, they are supervised by their UTRGV Internship professors and Dr. Gregory Sparrow, who is a Professor in the Counseling Department, founder of DFOC, and Clinical Research Coordinator.

If you wish to receive services from OTRC counselors, please complete our Intake Form. Once you submit the forms, we will contact you with further instructions.
